5 Reasons Your Website Gets Visitors But No Enquiries (And How to Fix Each One)

Traffic isn't your problem. Your website is. Here's what's killing your conversions and how to fix it.

1. There's no clear next step above the fold

The most common conversion killer. Someone lands on your homepage and the first thing they see is a beautiful hero image, your company name, and a vague tagline like "Delivering Excellence Since 2009."

Then what? Where do they go? What do they do?

If a visitor has to scroll to find a reason to get in touch — or hunt around to find a contact button — most of them won't bother. You have three seconds to tell someone what you do, why it matters to them, and what to do next. That's it.

The fix: Your headline needs to speak directly to the problem your customer is trying to solve. Your CTA needs to be visible without scrolling. And both need to be on every page, not just the homepage.

2. The page loads too slowly

A one-second delay in page load time reduces conversions by 7%. A three-second delay loses 40% of mobile visitors before the page even finishes loading.

Most Belfast business websites load in 4–8 seconds on mobile. By the time your page is fully loaded, almost half your potential customers have already left.

Speed issues are almost always invisible to the business owner — you're on a fast laptop, on a fast connection, looking at a cached version of your own site. Meanwhile your customers on 4G in the car park outside are staring at a blank screen.

The fix: Run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights. Any score below 70 on mobile is costing you enquiries. A good web design team can diagnose and fix the common culprits: uncompressed images, too many plugins, slow hosting, render-blocking scripts.

3. There's no social proof where it matters

Most businesses put testimonials on a separate "Reviews" page. Nobody goes to the Reviews page.

Social proof needs to be on the page where the decision is being made — next to your CTA, in your hero section, right before the contact form. Not buried three clicks deep.

When we worked with The Hills Restaurant, putting real results front and centre made a measurable difference — +38% organic traffic and reservations doubled. That's the kind of proof that converts.

The fix: Pull your best two or three Google reviews and put them on your homepage, your services pages, and your contact page — right next to the CTA. If you have case study results, put the numbers front and centre.

4. The contact form asks for too much

Every field you add to a contact form reduces completions. Name and email will convert. Name, email, phone, company, budget, project type, how did you hear about us, and a message box will not.

You can get the extra information on the call. Right now your only goal is to get them to submit their details.

The fix: Strip your contact form to the absolute minimum — name, email, and maybe one qualifying question. If you need more information for a quote, use a multi-step form where the first step is so easy it feels effortless.

5. The copy talks about you, not them

"We are a Belfast-based full-service digital agency with over 15 years of experience delivering innovative solutions across a range of industries."

Nobody cares. Not because they're rude — but because that sentence contains zero information about what problem you solve for them.

Visitors arrive on your website with one question: "Can these people fix my problem?" If your copy doesn't answer that question immediately and specifically, they assume the answer is no and leave.

The fix: Rewrite every headline on your site to focus on the outcome for the customer, not the description of your business. "More enquiries from your website in 30 days" beats "Full-service Belfast digital agency" every single time.

The fastest way to find out which of these is killing your conversions

Most businesses have two or three of these problems at once. The difficult part isn't fixing them — it's knowing exactly which ones to prioritise first.

That's what our free website audit does.

We look at your site across five areas — speed, SEO, design, conversion rate, and mobile performance — and give you a clear, specific list of what to fix and in what order. No jargon. No sales pitch at the end. Just honest feedback.

Takes 30 seconds to book. We deliver your audit within 48 hours.
